Sydney University Musical Society

Founded in 1878, SUMS is Australia’s oldest university choir and has actively contributed to the musical life of the University and Sydney’s community for 142 years. SUMS has had many notable achievements over its lifetime, including Australian premieres of Bach’s Mass in B minor and the St Matthew Passion in 1880, and a performance during the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron at the Sydney 2000 Opening Ceremony. Our recent concerts include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, accompanied by SUSO, as well as collaborations with the Conservatorium of Music featuring performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 and Sergei Prokofiev's, Alexander Nevsky. SUMS combines its musical achievements with a great social atmosphere, with lots of organised and informal social events including a biennial camp and regular visits to the pub. Most importantly, SUMS is a non-auditioned choir and community of lifelong friends, we welcome everyone to join and sing with us.

Why join us?
